This is something I have really wanted to start getting the kids to, and am going to try this time.
The first Saturday of every month, Home Depot offers "How To" workshops for children between the ages of 5 and 12. The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety as they are completing their project. The next workshop is this Saturday, January 2, from 9 am-noon at all Home Depot stores. HOMEMADE LAUNDRY DETERGENT RECIPE
This is the recipe I have used for a while now. I had researched a bunch of different recipes and experimented around with Mom in the kitchen. This is the one we have liked the best. From what I read they all work pretty well, but I like this one and it works great. Even on Josh's work clothes.
The only ingredients you actually need for homemade laundry detergent are as follows:
*1 cup Washing Soda (I use Arm & Hammer) Make sure you get washing soda and not baking soda. It is in a bigger box, I found it at HyVee
*1/2 cup borax (I use 20 Mule Team) Found at Walmart or HyVee
*1 bar soap (You can use Ivory or Fels Naptha, found at HyVee. There are few other kinds you can use, but I like these the best. I have decided that I like to do half and half best, so I use a half bar of Ivory and a half bar of Fels Naptha.)
*Approximately 3 gallons plus 4 cups water
You will need a pan to cook the soap, a spoon to stir it while cooking, a measuring cup, and a cheese grater or knife to grate the soap bar. You will also need a large container to put the detergent in. I use a five gallon bucket and it works great.Put four cups of water into a pan and put it on the stove on high until it’s at boiling, then lower the heat until it’s simmering. While it’s heating up, take the bar of soap and grate it with a cheese grater to make little soap curls. My favorite soap is to cut a bar of the Fels Naptha in half and cut a bar of Ivory in half and use half of each bar per batch.
When the water is boiling, start throwing in the soap a little bit at a time, then stirring it until it’s dissolved. Do not just toss in all of the soap at once, It dissolves better if you do a little at a time and stir till melted. Then add more until all the soap is added. Stir the soapy water with a spoon until all of the soap is dissolved. In the end, you’ll have some very warm soap soup. It is very important to get all of the soap dissolved well to make a good consistency for the detergent.
Next, get out your large container and add three gallons of warm tap water to it. I use a five gallon bucket: You can get them at Farm or Home Improvement stores or at Walmart in the hardware section. To this bucket add a cup of the washing soda and stir. Then add a 1/2 cup of the borax and stir. Then I add the soap soup mix and stir well. It helps to stir it really well to give you a good slime consistency for the end result. I use a large wooden stick to stir to get to the bottom.
Cover with the lid and let sit for 24 hours. It usually is fine to sit overnight and I don't usually have to wait the full 24 hours. If I make it during the day, it is usually ready in the morning. When it is done give it a good stir to mix it up again. It will be slimy, but sometimes the consistency varies. That is fine, it just depends on the soap.
I use between a 1/2 cup for small/regular loads or 1 cup for work clothes, towels, or heavy soiled loads. Use as little or as much as you like per load up to a cup.
I also still use my regular stain remover as before on the kids clothes and other stains as needed. Do not be surprised that the soap does not make suds, or bubbles, it is not supposed too, and it works great and rinses clean. I also just use a plastic measuring cup to measure it and just keep it at the washer. You can put the soap into old detergent bottles to pour out also. If you do this, put a few marbles in each bottle to stir it up while shaking. I prefer just to keep my big bucket by the washer and scoop out as needed, but some prefer to put in detergent bottles. Do whatever works best for you.
You can also add drops of your favorite essential oils for fragrance if you prefer, but I like the clean smell of my two bars of soaps mixed together. Some people use Lavendar, or Pepperment oils. Just use as preferred

Homemade Limoncello
Homemade Limoncello
WARNING WARNING WARNING!!! IT IS SO GOOD!!!!
Ingredients
16 lemons-Get the thicker skinned ones because they are easier to peel.
2 bottles (750 ml) at least 80 proof vodka. 100 is better because it will not freeze as much while storing in freezer, but I use 80.
4 cups sugar
5 cups water
STEP 1
Wash the lemons with a vegetable brush and hot water to remove any reside of pesticides or wax- pat the lemons dry.
Carefully peel the lemons with a vegetable peeler so there is no white pith on the peel. NOTE: Use only the outer part of the rind. The pith, the white part underneath the rind, is too bitter and would spoil your limoncello. Some people like to zest instead, but I find peeling is faster because there are so many lemons to do.
STEP 2
In a large glass jar (1-gallon jar, I use a huge pickle jar), add one bottle of vodka.
Add the lemon peels.
Cover the jar and let sit at room temperature for at least (10) ten days and up to (40) days in a cool dark place. The longer it rests, the better the taste will be. (There is no need to stir - all you have to do is wait.) As the limoncello sits, the vodka slowly take on the flavor and rich yellow color of the lemon zest.
I cannot ever wait for 40 days. I always do 14 or 15 days and mine turns out great. If you have the patience you can do the 40 days.
STEP 3
After the mixture has set for 14 or 15 days.
In a large saucepan, combine the sugar and water; cook until thickened, approximately 5 minutes.
Let the syrup cool before adding it to the Limoncello mixture.
Add to the Limoncello mixture from Step One. Add the additional bottle of vodka. Allow to rest for another 14to 40 days.
STEP 4
After the rest period, strain and bottle: discarding the lemon peels.
Pour into smaller glass bottles. I use wine bottles, etc. Store in fridge or freezer till ready to serve.
STEP 5
Enjoy. I love it chilled, and it is also great mixed with Iced Tea, or Lemonade. YUM!!!
Now start your next batch or you will regret it. HA HA

New Diaper Study from Arquest
Arquest is another way I get free diapers. They do diaper studies, usually generic brands, but free is free. You just need to call and say you heard from a friend that they were doing a study and would like to join. They will send you the free pack of dipaers or training pants. You get and instruction sheet to fill out after using, and follow the directions. They set up a phone interview to read your answers and it usually takes literally 2 minutes to do. After the phone interview they send you a $10 check in the mail. I have done this a lot, and love it. They are so nice also.
The study they are going to be doing now is
boys diapers size 1
girls training pants size 3T/4T
If either of these work for your child, give them a call if interested. The studies do fill up fast so call ASAP.

How to Get Great Coupons for Free Stuff
A great and easy way to get free stuff and groceries is with "Free Item" coupons. There are a few ways you can get these. I get them in the mail a lot.
Sometimes I post the links on here where you can sign up to get a coupon for a free item. I always sign up for these and usually do get the coupon.
Another way is through Kraft First Taste http://www.kraftfirsttaste.com/ I have been a member of this for a while, and when a new Kraft product comes out sometimes they will send you an email to try it free with a coupon. If you get the email in time, and respond they will send you a coupon in the mail for the product for free, and sometimes $ off coupons as well. I love this site. Also, when you try it you can go on a review the product. I always try to do this as well. I don't know if it helps get more coupons or not, but I do it anyway.
Another way to get coupons in the mail is through Vocalpoint. http://www.vocalpoint.com/index.html You can sign up on their website. They sometimes randomly send coupons. Coupons for free stuff, and sometimes free samples. I have gotten cereal bars, razors, and other things like that. Coupons for free stuff like waffles and etc. They just will send the coupons and free samples out randomly.
Another way also is through Psst General Mills. You can sign up on their website.http://pssst.generalmills.com/ They send out coupons for new General Mills products. I just got a coupon in mail today for a new kind of break and bake cookies. They also send you extra $ off coupons to give out to friends and they are usually great coupons.
Today at Walmart with my free item coupons that I have gotten different ways, I got:
Hunts Ketchup-(signed up online for), Digiorno Flatbread Melts-(From Kraft First Taste), 2 Velveeta Shells and cheese cups-(From Kraft First Taste), Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs-(From Kraft First Taste), Cascade Rinse Aid-(Came in a coupon book I signed up online for) All For Free!!!!!!!
Wal Mart Bargains on Dawn Dish Soap and Febreze Noticibles
Here are a few great bargains I found at Walmart.
Febreeze Noticibles-These are on Rollback at Walmart for $5 right now. Last week in the P&G insert in the paper was a $4 off Q. I got this today for $1 plus tax and these are awesome. I ordered some more q's for these off ebay. You can get a lot of q's on there pretty cheap usually, and when a deal like this comes along I stock up a lot.
Dawn Pure Essentials Dish Soap- These are on rollback at Walmart for $2.25. A while back there was a coupon for $1.50 off of this kind of soap, so I got 20 coupons off ebay. After the coupon and the rollback price I got each large bottle for .75 plus tax. That is a large bottle of soap cheaper than you can buy a tiny one. It is good dishsoap too, and hypoallergenic. I got 20 bottles so that should last me a long time. 20 bottles for $15.00 plus tax is a great deal for dish soap.
